Hello again SCGAR participants and officials.
The Classic Outback Trial in Alice Springs has been occupying a lot of us, so not a lot has happened with SCGAR in June.
Graham Wallis and I went to the Cooma Canberra area early June to confirm a great closed road stage that was used in the original ‘Cross in 1966. It runs through private property so there are negotiations to finalise but the road is great and quite unique.
We also met with the Forestry people in Canberra and went out to the Kowen Forest (used in the National Capital ARC Rally) and confirmed three great stages there.
Graham and I will be doing a full course survey in early August after which we can start to give you more detail about timed events each day.
The overnight venues were listed in Newsletter No 2 and are also on the web site southerncrossanniversaryrally.com.au. Make sure you book early, as with the expected full field of 60 cars and associated service crews and officials there will be a big call for accommodation, particularly in the Coffs Harbour area due to the WRC event.
Historic Rally Club of NSW/ACT
Our HRA equivalent club in NSW recently formed by Dave Johnson and others has decided to postpone it’s first TRE event from August this year to early in 2017. This will relieve the financial pressure on those who intended to do both that event and the SCGAR (possibly having already done the COT) and hopefully divert a few more NSW /ACT competitors to compete in the SCGAR.
At the time of writing we have 40 registrations of interest. I cannot confirm paid entries because our entries secretary Kaye Kilsby is off with Lui MacLennan walking the Namatjira Trail near Alice Springs after officiating in COT. Enquiries are coming in steadily
